One month after the launch of e-invoicing in France, the government has published its[first official review of the reform](https://www.economie.gouv.fr/actualites/facturation-electronique-trois-entreprises-sur-quatre-deja-engagees-dans-la-reforme). On 8 October 2026, the first e-invoicing monitoring committee met under the chairmanship of the French Minister for Public Action and Accounts, and the headline figure is clear: three in four businesses are already on board. 75% of VAT-registered companies have already designated a platform to receive their e-invoices.

But the most telling point is another one. The committee didn't just count invoices: it also discussed how to **measure the benefits of the reform for businesses**, starting with simplification, **automated processing** and the reuse of data. In other words, the French government itself is looking beyond compliance.

Compliance in France has got off to a good start, but the real value comes afterwards, when companies automate the processes that e-invoicing makes possible.

## E-invoicing in France after one month: compliance is well under way

The reform came into force on 1 September 2026. Around the committee table were the main business organisations, the chambers of commerce networks, chartered accountants and the government departments involved. The figures they reviewed show a system that is already up and running:

- **75%** of VAT-registered businesses have designated a platform to receive invoices;
- **20 million** e-invoices have been exchanged;
- **€70 billion** is the total value of the amounts invoiced.

For a reform of this scale, it is a solid start. The infrastructure works, most businesses have taken the first step and invoices are now flowing in a structured format. It's worth remembering, though, what these numbers actually measure: designating a platform means a company is ready to receive e-invoices, not that its invoicing processes have changed. That is the gap between compliance and value.

What still isn't working: the issues that hold back automation

The review also highlighted the difficulties of the start-up phase. Some are about compliance itself: business organisations pointed to the clarity and cost of the solutions on offer, choosing or switching platforms, adapting invoicing software and the specific needs of smaller businesses and certain sectors. To address them, the committee agreed to publish an update to the start-up guide within two weeks of the meeting, and the minister confirmed that[no penalties](https://www.economie.gouv.fr/actualites/facturation-electronique-entre-entreprises-coup-denvoi-de-la-reforme) will be imposed before the end of 2026.

Two other issues, raised mainly by large companies, go further. They concern **interoperability** between certain solutions and the correct transmission of **invoice statuses**, and according to the committee they can disrupt the automation of invoice processing chains.

In the French model, an e-invoice doesn't simply travel from supplier to customer: it carries a series of statuses that track its lifecycle, such as received, approved, rejected or paid. These statuses are what allow systems to talk to each other. When an invoice is approved, the ERP can schedule the payment; when it is rejected, the supplier can correct it straight away. If a status is lost between two platforms, or arrives incomplete, that chain breaks: someone has to step in, check the invoice manually, and chase colleagues or suppliers by email.

These are not compliance problems. A company can be fully compliant and still find that its invoices get stuck between one system and another. They are automation problems, and solving them is what turns e-invoicing into a real efficiency gain.

## How e-invoicing automation turns compliance into value

With the reform, invoices stop being documents to read and become structured, standardised data. That is the foundation for automation. Intelligent automation isn't a separate topic here: it is one of the tools that make automation work, especially where rules alone aren't enough and the system has to interpret, prioritise or predict. In practice, **the value lies in shortening the time between receiving an invoice, checking it and deciding to pay it**.

### Reconciliation

An e-invoice arrives already structured, so it can be automatically matched against purchase orders, delivery notes and contracts.[AI-based matching](https://blog.digtechs.com/riconciliazione-fatture-fornitore-matching-ai-based?hsLang=en) handles the cases that strict rules can't, such as partial deliveries or slightly different descriptions, and flags only the discrepancies that really matter. Manual work then focuses on the uncertain cases rather than on every single document.

### Exception management and invoice statuses

This is where automation directly addresses the issues raised by the committee. A well-integrated system tracks every invoice status, spots when one is missing or inconsistent and reopens the case automatically. AI can then rank exceptions by priority, suggest corrective actions and route each case to the right team, so that disputed invoices, mismatched amounts and pending approvals don't sit in someone's inbox.

### Payment times and cash flow

Payment times were one of the topics the committee discussed specifically, together with France's Payment Terms Observatory. When invoices are reconciled and approved faster, they are paid faster too. With reliable, up-to-date data and faster[cash reconciliation](https://blog.digtechs.com/riconciliazione-contabile-automazione-ai-matching-incassi?hsLang=en), predictive models can also estimate when a customer is likely to pay and flag the risk of late payment early, helping treasury teams plan more effectively.

## 1 September 2027: more data, more reasons to automate now

The next phase of the reform will multiply the volume of data in circulation. From **1 September 2027**:

- **SMEs and micro-enterprises will be required to issue e-invoices**;
- the roll-out of[e-reporting](https://www.economie.gouv.fr/tout-savoir-sur-la-facturation-electronique-pour-les-entreprises#glossaire) will be extended, meaning the electronic transmission of transaction and payment data to the tax authorities.

Business organisations have asked for this stage to be prepared well in advance, drawing on the lessons of 2026. For companies, the logic is simple: more counterparties issuing e-invoices and more data to report mean more statuses to track, more invoices to reconcile and more exceptions to manage. Processes that are still handled manually today will become harder to sustain. Automating them now, while volumes are still growing, is far easier than doing it under pressure in 2027.

## E-invoicing in France: compliance is where value begins

The French reform has built the infrastructure. What businesses do with it is now up to them. **Compliance is the starting point, not the finish line**: the real return comes when structured invoices feed automated processes, statuses flow between systems without manual intervention and payment times get shorter. The monitoring committee will meet again before the end of 2026 to follow the delivery of these benefits. Companies that start automating now will be the first to see them.

## Digital Technologies: from Plateforme Agréée to end-to-end automation

Digital Technologies, a B Corp and part of the Namirial Group, covers both sides of the journey this article describes.

**Compliance.** Digital Technologies is officially registered as a **Plateforme Agréée** by the French tax authorities (DGFiP), after rigorous interoperability testing with the Public Invoicing Platform (PPF) and the validation of all mandatory e-invoicing and e-reporting flows. Beyond France, its Global E-invoicing & Compliance solution manages the entire e-invoicing cycle, from issuance to compliant digital archiving, in[more than 90 countries](https://blog.digtechs.com/fatturazione-elettronica-internazionale-sei-pronto-per-le-novita-dei-prossimi-anni?hsLang=en).

**Automation.** For Digital Technologies, compliance is the starting point. Its hyperautomation suite and modular **AI solutions** are designed to automate finance and supply chain processes, from accounts payable to accounts receivable, reducing time, costs and manual work. Secure API integration with ERP and accounting systems means automation fits into the IT environment companies already use.

One platform, two dimensions of value: companies can adopt what they need today for compliance, and activate automation when they're ready.

## FAQ

What is the current status of e-invoicing in France?

Since 1 September 2026, all VAT-registered businesses in France must be able to receive e-invoices through a Plateforme Agréée, and large and mid-sized companies must also issue them. According to the first official review, published in October 2026, 75% of VAT-registered businesses have already designated a reception platform.

What changes on 1 September 2027?

From 1 September 2027, SMEs and micro-enterprises will also be required to issue e-invoices, and e-reporting will be extended. E-reporting is the electronic transmission of transaction and payment data to the French tax authorities.

What is a Plateforme Agréée?

A Plateforme Agréée is a platform certified by the French tax authorities (DGFiP) to exchange e-invoices between businesses and transmit the required data to the Public Invoicing Platform (PPF). In France, businesses must use one to send and receive e-invoices.

How can businesses go beyond e-invoicing compliance?

By using structured invoice data to automate their processes. Automation, including AI-based tools, can reconcile invoices against orders and delivery notes, track invoice statuses, manage exceptions and help shorten payment times.

 "articleBody" : "One month after the launch of e-invoicing in France, the government has published its first official review of the reform. The committee didn't just count invoices: it also discussed how to measure the benefits of the reform for businesses, starting with simplification, automated processing and the reuse of data. In other words, the French government itself is looking beyond compliance. Compliance in France has got off to a good start, but the real value comes afterwards, when companies automate the processes that e-invoicing makes possible. E-invoicing in France after one month: compliance is well under way The reform came into force on 1 September 2026. Around the committee table were the main business organisations, the chambers of commerce networks, chartered accountants and the government departments involved. The figures they reviewed show a system that is already up and running: 75% of VAT-registered businesses have designated a platform to receive invoices; 20 million e-invoices have been exchanged; €70 billion is the total value of the amounts invoiced. What still isn't working: the issues that hold back automation The review also highlighted the difficulties of the start-up phase. Some are about compliance itself: business organisations pointed to the clarity and cost of the solutions on offer, choosing or switching platforms, adapting invoicing software and the specific needs of smaller businesses and certain sectors. To address them, the committee agreed to publish an update to the start-up guide within two weeks of the meeting, and the minister confirmed that no penalties will be imposed before the end of 2026. Two other issues, raised mainly by large companies, go further. They concern interoperability between certain solutions and the correct transmission of invoice statuses, and according to the committee they can disrupt the automation of invoice processing chains. How e-invoicing automation turns compliance into value With the reform, invoices stop being documents to read and become structured, standardised data. That is the foundation for automation. Intelligent automation isn't a separate topic here: it is one of the tools that make automation work, especially where rules alone aren't enough and the system has to interpret, prioritise or predict. In practice, the value lies in shortening the time between receiving an invoice, checking it and deciding to pay it. Reconciliation An e-invoice arrives already structured, so it can be automatically matched against purchase orders, delivery notes and contracts. AI-based matching handles the cases that strict rules can't, such as partial deliveries or slightly different descriptions, and flags only the discrepancies that really matter. Manual work then focuses on the uncertain cases rather than on every single document. Exception management and invoice statuses This is where automation directly addresses the issues raised by the committee. Payment times and cash flow Payment times were one of the topics the committee discussed specifically, together with France's Payment Terms Observatory. When invoices are reconciled and approved faster, they are paid faster too. With reliable, up-to-date data and faster cash reconciliation, predictive models can also estimate when a customer is likely to pay and flag the risk of late payment early, helping treasury teams plan more effectively. 1 September 2027: more data, more reasons to automate now The next phase of the reform will multiply the volume of data in circulation. From 1 September 2027: SMEs and micro-enterprises will be required to issue e-invoices; the roll-out of e-reporting will be extended, meaning the electronic transmission of transaction and payment data to the tax authorities. E-invoicing in France: compliance is where value begins The French reform has built the infrastructure. What businesses do with it is now up to them. Compliance is the starting point, not the finish line: the real return comes when structured invoices feed automated processes, statuses flow between systems without manual intervention and payment times get shorter. The monitoring committee will meet again before the end of 2026 to follow the delivery of these benefits. Companies that start automating now will be the first to see them. Digital Technologies: from Plateforme Agréée to end-to-end automation Digital Technologies, a B Corp and part of the Namirial Group, covers both sides of the journey this article describes. Compliance. Digital Technologies is officially registered as a Plateforme Agréée by the French tax authorities (DGFiP), after rigorous interoperability testing with the Public Invoicing Platform (PPF) and the validation of all mandatory e-invoicing and e-reporting flows. Beyond France, its Global E-invoicing & Compliance solution manages the entire e-invoicing cycle, from issuance to compliant digital archiving, in more than 90 countries. Automation. For Digital Technologies, compliance is the starting point. Its hyperautomation suite and modular AI solutions are designed to automate finance and supply chain processes, from accounts payable to accounts receivable, reducing time, costs and manual work. Secure API integration with ERP and accounting systems means automation fits into the IT environment companies already use. One platform, two dimensions of value: companies can adopt what they need today for compliance, and activate automation when they're ready. FAQ What is the current status of e-invoicing in France? Talk to our experts →",
